The next day Becky and I packed up and headed off to Bassingbourn and the home of Fiona and Perry, Mark’s mother and stepfather. They have the most gorgeous place out in the country, and it always feels like going to a little resort every time we go there. We only stayed one night, but it was wonderful. The next day we all headed off to Abigail and Mark’s house in Birmingham for the Easter weekend.
The main goal of the weekend was to continue on with the very large project that is their backyard. This project has included major tearing out of old features, ripping up old plumbing, putting in a French drain, and pouring concrete slabs. There was now a bunch of ripped out material that needed to be set out at the end of the alley for haul away. We also needed to jackhammer some old concrete, grade the back yard, lay material down, and but down about 6 tons of crushed gravel. Mark ordered a small digger and dumper to haul material around. Mark’s brother, Owen, also joined the party.
Friday and Saturday we worked all day and got an amazing amount completed. We also worked in the on and off rain/drizzle all day. The one thing we did not have was hot temperatures, so that was a great plus. Jamie added to the fun and was always tottering around and making everyone smile. We had great fellowship and meals together and really enjoyed our time. We also got pretty muddy and had much wash to do along the way.
Mark’s family all headed out on Sunday and Becky, and I were able to stay on till Monday and finish up a few other items. We hope to remodel the shed in May and Mark, and I worked on some pre-build things for that project. We then headed back for our final days in London. We are sad it is all coming to an end.
