Mini Marathon

It was the London Marathon weekend. Tom had been warning us about this event and sent us information if anyone wanted to go down and watch it and also how to not get caught up in all the traffic surrounding it. The marathon was on Sunday and Becky, and I knew we did not want to go down then, but on Saturday we decided to go down to the St. James Park area and see what was going on. The answer to that question was a great deal.

We thought they might be setting up for the marathon, but in reality, there were many events happening, particularly the mini marathon which seemed to be several different races for children. We enjoyed walking around and see everything but could tell that it was going to be crazy Sunday. There was to be 56,000 runners in the race. Mark and Abigail were to have a very good friend of theirs run in the race with the elite group, but he unfortunately became very ill a couple days earlier and his doctor told him he should not run.

It was fun to see everything setup outside Buckingham Palace and see all the children running. We enjoyed seeing the gorgeous flowers and spring animals all about. The day was amazing with temperatures in the 60’s and bright sunshine. This spring has been so incredible, with almost no rainy days. We have had bright sun and warm days.

After we were done at St. James Park, we grabbed some Five Guys and then back to the DH for a short rest. We could not stay inside on such a nice day so one of the students, Alex joined us, and we walked down to Battersea Park. So many people just out picnicking. We even came across what looked to be a batting cage, but it was for Cricket practice. We grabbed an ice cream along the way as well, because you have to on a gorgeous day in a park. Then back to the DH. We were tired but so relaxed after walking all day and being in the sunshine.
