Perry and Fiona allowed us to spend two wonderful days relaxing at their home in the Bassingbourn. The home is surrounded by farmer’s fields and Bassingbourn is nothing more than some houses, a few shops, a couple of churches and a pub. We had nothing planned for the two days. They have an amazing garden area in their back yard with plants, flowers, trees, vines, Vegetables, chickens, and three large bee hives. They have really done a wonderful job at creating a real oasis.
One of the bee hives had just started to go a bit wild over the past couple days and Perry felt that it may be due to the fact that the bees do not have enough room. He had all the parts to build some more hives and so he and I spent an afternoon building some. It took a few YouTube videos, but we got some of the new parts built. We did run out and then next day we went to his local beekeeper shop to get more parts and finished building all that we needed. The next part was to add the parts to the hive. We put on the Cadillacs, which are the full white protection suits beekeeper’s wear. We then went to the very active hive and started to separate the hive. I don’t think I will completely ever forget the sound of those thousands of bees make and knowing they are buzzing around your head the whole time. It was very eerie. We got the new sections in and all put back together.
The rest of the time was relaxing walks, great conversations, wonderful meals and much needed physical and emotional rest. We very much appreciated our time with Perry and Fiona. On Sunday we went to Holy Trinity Church in Cambridge, which is near Bassingbourn. After church Fiona dropped us off at the train station and we headed off on our three-hour ride to Birmingham to spend a few days with Abigail, Mark and Jamie.
