In order to get back to Howe for dinner with Perry’s mother and brother we needed to get onto two different ferries. This meant that we would need to leave Iona Isle on the 6:45 am ferry. Our hotel would not have breakfast setup by then but said they would leave out some food for us. When we headed out on the two-minute walk to the ferry dock there was no food. Becky thought that strange, so she went back to see if we had missed it and when she did the woman at the hotel met her with two bags of food for us. She was so sorry about being late, but she had to wait for a boat to delivery some things earlier that morning. Such a wonderful experience. This 6:45 ferry does not always run, but Fiona asked the week before and they agreed to run it. We were the only people on it. Such a massive boat for just 4 people.
We then headed off to the next port at Craignure. Of course, the roads were all one lane. Fiona drove this route. The early morning views were so still and quiet. There was no breeze blowing this morning and all the water on the lochs was so calm and the mirror images of the mountains in the water was stunning. Unfortunately, there was also no coffee places open along the whole route. We thought we would not make the 8:30 AM ferry, but somehow, we did. This was mostly due to the fact that on these one lane roads at this time of day were not very busy. We were the second to last car to get on this ferry. This ferry was big enough that it had a lounge and we all got hot drinks and at the food we had with us. It was sad to think we would be leaving the great Scotland highlands on this day. It has been a true gift from God to be able to see all that we have scene, even this last ferry run was wonderful.
We listened to Enigma on the drive to Howe. Even though we did leave the Scottish Highlands the views all the way to Howe were wonderful. Abigail, Mark, and Jamie had been at a Friend’s International conference over the past several days and were heading back to Birmingham. Their route would take them very near Howe. They had to get back to Birmingham but stopped at Howe about 30 minutes after we arrived. We all had fun showing Jamie all the sheep and walking around the grounds. At times he was very much overwhelmed by all the new sights and sounds. Howe is really a step back in time in some ways and still very current in others. Becky and I very much enjoyed every moment we spent at Howe. Eventually Abigail and family had to get back on the road to get home before they had to meet with some friends. We were all so glad that they had stopped by.
Perry made a wonderful Sunday Roast dinner. We had another relaxing and enjoyable evening at the Howe Estate. Becky and I walked around the sheep fields. We all then had a nice evening chatting in the green room and sitting by the fire. This was a perfect end to our adventures in Scotland.
