Had a few close to home catch up days. I spent one whole day just catching up on all the multimedia stuff. I wrote blog posts, posted pictures, shared photos, and just spend the whole day catching up on stuff I had let get behind for weeks. It is amazing how quickly you can fall behind. Every day here seems to have something. The other thing is that doing simple things takes some planning. You have to figure out which train to take, from where, at what time, where will it leave you off, etc. You also have to spend time looking information up almost every day. Then there is a constant flow of emails, messages, and then just the great chance to sit and chat with students or Tom and Jo. The days have moved so quickly. We all cannot believe we are now in the last month of being here at the Daniel House.
Becky got back from being Birmingham and then went out with one of the students to have dinner and to chat. Tom bought Indian food for those in the house, and it was good, and we all sat around and chatted for a while.
A little note here, bikes are a huge thing in London. They are everywhere. The big thing is the electric bike rentals are all over the city. You download the app, walk up to the bike, check it out and off you go. People have their own bikes. People have folding bikes. People ride bikes to work in the suits and dresses. Old, young, it does not matter. I will also have to add they are not very sensitive to pedestrians, but we all work it out.
Becky had another PT appointment the next day and every time her foot is getting better which is very encouraging. We then went out and grabbed lunch. The day was so sunny and warm and beautiful. So many things blooming and of course the pollen count grows every day as well. Becky also had a hair appointment and so I decided to walk her over to it. As we started out, Becky said we were going the wrong way, but Google maps said we were going correctly. Halfway there we decided to call, turns out they had moved since the last time. Becky changed her appointment till later and this gave us time to slowly walk through Kensington Gardens and grab a gelato on the way. After dropping Becky off I made my way through the gardens to get back to the Daniel House. I saw some smoke, which is very strange in London. Turned out a log in the park was on fire. Someone must have lit it. It was burning pretty good when I came up to it, eventually some park workers showed up with small tubs of water, not enough to put it out but knock it down. I also heard a fire truck on its way. I moved on.
That night Elliott, Drew and I had our weekly guy’s night out. We first went to Mezcalito, a Mexican pub. There is not very much Mexican food in London and this was very good. We then went over the Kings Arm pub to watch the Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur football match. This is the pub that has signs on the door that says very clearly for “home fans ONLY”. Since it was a home game, and the stadium is not far away the pub was not full. We had fun watching the match that Chelsea won 1-0, but there was also a goal by each team that was taken away on review due to penalty. The referee also gave out a slew of yellow card and that became a thing as well. Becky had her cadre while we were gone. I got back and finally got to bed late, but it was fun.
