Class & Ankle & Sun

As we came home the night before from our great success at baking a cake, Becky unfortunately caught her ankle in a stair railing at the Daniel House and got injured. She slept with it and the next morning it was VERY tender, but she was able to get around. We first feared the worst, but as the day went on it was not as bad as we thought. We hoped.

I had my first class. I just have 5 students who needed the class, but they are a great group, and it will be great fun. Becky is going to be sitting in on the class as well and she was able to get up the stairs for the class. Tom then invited us out to lunch and that was very nice. We went to the Drayton Arms pub. the pub we went out to was not far from the house and so Becky did not have to use her ankle much.

We just spent the night in and relaxed and let Becky keep her foot up and on ice. We had bought some microwave popcorn, unfortunately the microwave is not the same as in the US and it took me awhile and some downloaded manuals to figure out how to not burn the popcorn.

I needed to find solutions to some problems with an assignment I was giving my students and deal with some work issues and so stayed at the house the next day. Becky’s ankle was better, but she knew she could not do much walking. So she rode the train to the River Thames and spent a couple hours riding up down the river on an Uber boat.

They treated her really well and she loved it. Later in the afternoon we met up with a missionary working in the London area. She was once a student at Samford and actually did the Daniel House program. She is currently working with Campus Outreach. In the evening, we had great conversations with students and then watched the movie Hidden Figures with some of them. I had a zoom call with people back in the states that went to 11:00 our time.

Thursday morning Becky was doing better. We had gotten her a brace for her ankle, and she continued to ice it. We also discovered that the Christ Church Kensington had a women’s Bible study and so she headed off to that. I had to meet with Tom and Jo and deal with some paperwork. The study was small, but a real mix of young and old and new believers and more mature believers. Becky loved it.

Then we headed out and we got ourselves to the Notting Hill area and worked our way to the Portobello Road Marget. It started really raining as we headed out to the tube and as we walked to get lunch. After lunch we saw the most amazing sight, the SUN!!!!! We had literally not seen the sun since we landed through the clouds into Heathrow. We really were amazed, and it was so BRIGHT!!!

We had a good time just exploring. We came back to the house and for the first time I cooked a meal. It is a tiny kitchen we have, but it worked fine, and the meal was great. We are starting to get settled in and feeling like we have places for things and not quite a routine, but getting there.
