This was our last full day at the Daniel House, with these students, having this shared experience, and enjoying the time of our life. It really has been all of that. We spent the early part of this day like all the other students in the house did, packing. It was not difficult since we just knew we had to take everything. Becky was so good as we went through the semester. If we brought new things in, she would make sure we sent some things on to either a charity shop or just threw something out. Some of the students ended up have to buy new luggage to haul everything they had bought and collected along the way.
After we had finished up all the packing and a bit of cleaning of the room we then met up for lunch with our friends from back at Altadena Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Luke and Sarah Bishop. They decided to take a vacation to London and Paris. Turned out they finished their stay in London at a hotel very near to the Daniel House. They came by and then we took them to lunch at the Duke of Clearence. We had a wonderful lunch together hearing about their travels, sharing ours, and getting caught up on some going ons back in Birmingham USA. We then got them directed off to the Natural History Museaum and then headed back to the Daniel House.
Then it was time for the end of the semester Larry Awards. Tom and Jo ask for suggestions on superlatives for everyone in the house and then they gave out awards based on those. They are called the Larry Awards after Tom’s favorite child Larry, his dog. This was a very enjoyable time and had many laughs and a good way for us all to gather together one more time. After the awards we all went as a group to Kensington Gardens. The evening was breezy, but in the upper 60’s. We just sat out in the grass and talked for a bit. Then some of us walked to a gelato place and enjoyed a tasty treat before heading back to the DH one more time. Then some more packing and to bed.
